It’s been said – and I say it a lot – love makes the world go round. But in my experience, (both personally and professionally) that goes double for generosity.
Ruth is one of the most generous people I know. I don’t know if she’d call it generosity. She’d probably say she tries to be fair. Fair to the farmers who sell us the milk. Fair to her employees and fair to her customers. But I’ll tell you she’s generous too.
Monforte wouldn’t have come to the place we are now without the generosity of a lot of people. I think it’s an act of true generosity – and great faith – to sign up a for a CSA before the dairy has even been built. But lots of people have. And lots of our subscribers – our flock – have extended their generosity by buying a CSA for someone they love as a gift. They – you – have also told lots of your friends about Monforte’s CSA program. One of our subscribers has organized an event on one of the Toronto Islands to sign up more people. I call that pretty generous.
Monforte has also had the benefit of the generosity of many members of the media. We’ve had a lot of very nice things written about us and that’s helped spread the word about our cheese and our politics and what we believe in.
We’ve also come come to know and work with many generous artists. Most of the photos on our website have been taken by Terry Manzo, a very talented photographer who lives here in Stratford.
Nigel Dickson is another amazing photographer. You’ll recognize his now iconic photo of Ruth in her yellow apron and orange wellies.
Glenn Elliott is a sculptor who’s creating the Monforte logo – the beautiful wreath originally designed by Desmond Heeley – out of hoes, shovels and plowshares for the outside of 49 Griffith Road.
Although I don’t know the details, I can tell you these world-class artists do what they do for Monforte because they are incredibly generous. There’s no way Monforte could ever pay them what their work is really worth.
That’s a remarkable generosity, no?
So thanks...everyone.
