RUBY SUE’S STORY
A couple of years ago, Ruth got herself a horse as a birthday present. But Ruth being Ruth, she didn’t just get a horse, she rescued one.
Ruby Sue was a brood mare on a farm. It’s unkown how many foals she brought into the world but she was still suckling her latest when Ruth met her. The farmers wanted to breed her again, attempted artificial insemination, but it didn’t take. Ruby Sue had already been shipped to become dog meat when Ruth rescued her from the stock yards.
In the two years Ruth has had Ruby Sue, she’s gained 600 lbs. She’s 18 years old and going to foal again in May.
Ruby Sue’s a Clydesdale, a breed once listed as “vulnerable”, but now making a comeback. She has a gentle disposition and as Ruth would say, “hasn’t a bad bone in her body”. |
